This is the Dommel, the river over which a hay bridge has stood for centuries. Now, the bridge is part of a beautiful walking and cycling route. It used to be a functional crossing for farmers who grazed cattle and brought in crops on both sides of the Dommel.

In the spring of 2005, the hull (with coating) was whitewashed and the sail cross and tail were painted. After that, the mill was occasionally operated again, but the environment has become very unfavorable due to the many trees.

This round stone belt mill had a predecessor, the Halderse Mill, which stood at a different location near St. Michielsgestel. After the new stone mill on Genenberg was completed, the Halderse Mill, a post mill, was moved to Oploo, where it still stands today. The mill was built in 1842 by order of Petrus Peters. Petrus van Riel from Udenhout was the seller of the land. Van Riel is a well-known milling family. Petrus Peters was certainly not a miller and rented out his mills. It is possible that Van Riel did intend to build a mill on Genenberg, but for reasons still unknown, decided against it. It is also possible that Van Riel wanted to build a mill but lacked the funds, so Peters built it and Van Riel rented it.

This impressive screw was installed in 2016 at the site of this weir in the Dommel River. The flowing water sets the screw in motion. The energy generated provides green electricity to 170 homes in nearby Sint-Michielsgestel. The hydroelectric power plant is an initiative of two villagers, who formed a cooperative to raise the necessary funds for the plant.
