In the northern part of the Middel neighborhood, north of Westzaan, stands a small meadow mill called De Jonge Bart. It is no longer in use. (© Google)

The drawbridge on the Middel in Westzaan is a historically defining element in the ribbon village, visible in photographs from around 1885. This classic wooden drawbridge (drawbridge) at Vrouwenverdriet was essential for the local waterways and the historic timber yard.

Completely overcrowded, just a money-making scheme. You can't relax and look around. It's crowded, loud, hectic. In Enkhuizen, the Zederzee open-air museum and indoor are far more interesting, quieter and worth seeing.

The paint mill "De Kat" processes raw materials into pigments for traditional paint production. This was done using the recipe of the world-famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn. It is the only remaining paint mill in Zaanland. The mill was built in 1646, but burned down forty years later. Only the shed remained. Together with parts of another mill, this was converted into the current paint mill.
