Unfortunately, aircraft noise and numerous high-voltage pylons have a significant impact on the idyllic heathland scenery 🙄

Typical for the FFH area is the open, dry heathland with dry sandy grassland on the tops of the dunes. In between there are scattered small bodies of water with a diverse range of amphibian and dragonfly fauna. The western and eastern edges are alternately dominated by deadwood-rich oak-hornbeam forests and pine forests. In the south of the area, some areas belong to the habitat type starwort-oak-hornbeam forest, in the southeast corner by the runway there is a small, acidic honey grass-oak forest area and on the southern edge there is a bird cherry-alder-ash forest. The small-scale mosaic offers amphibians, insects, reptiles, bats and birds a varied habitat. As a result, the area has developed into a significant occurrence of sandy heath with heather, broom and species from Annex I of the Birds Directive and species from Annex II of the FFH Directive.

The Langener Waldsee is also known as the “venue” of the “Ironman Frankfurt”. At other times the bathing lake is also very busy.

It is worth driving only in this area. Try the byways, just drive into paths that don't look like "motorways". Then it will be the most beautiful. Gravel or MTB makes sense for side paths. A really wonderful piece of nature
