The Sakagori Fort was built in the 13th and 14th centuries; towers in the 17th century. It is located at the confluence of the Soeatisi with the Terek, thus strategically ideal. We are here barely 10km from the border with both Russia and South Ossetia. Anyone walking past this point had better have their identity card with them, as border checks can be expected.

Travertine is the rock from which the entire Sacré-Coeur in Paris is built. A bit more technically: a limestone formed by the precipitation of lime from calcium carbonate-supersaturated water from hot springs. ... but don't just think of white, but also of the red and orange traces left by mineral springs. This is the case in Keteresi and Abano, two almost abandoned villages, a little further down the valley, among others.

The Gergeti Trinity Church, (Georgian გერგეტის სამება; Gergetis Sameba) is a Georgian Orthodox church complex in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, Qazbegi Municipality. The complex consists of a 14th-century domed church and bell tower, as well as a council building (Georgian საბჭეო), which was added to the southern wall of the main church in the 15th century.[1] The church has a rectangular floor plan. Its dome rests on the two western free-standing columns and the walls of the eastern apse. The facade and dome of the church are decorated with Georgian ornaments. The ornaments are also on the walls of the bell tower. The Gergeti Sameba Church was a main church of the historical province of Chevi. Just below the church there is a fountain that is used by visitors. Source: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gergetier_Dreifaltigkeitskirche

Unfortunately, the majority of visitors can be chauffeured up by car, so it's always quite crowded, especially when the weather is nice. The name "Gergeti" (Georgian გერგეტი) comes from the disappeared Georgian village of Gergeti on the right bank of the Tergi River opposite the center of the region, the city of Stepantsminda. The Church of Sameba was built in Gergeti and still bears the name of this former village. -Wikipedia-

The Gergeti Trinity Church (2200m) has played an important role in the history of the Georgian Church and is today an important place of pilgrimage. The view over the valley of Stepantsminda and to Prometheus Mount Kazbek (5047m) is magnificent.
