You are advised to be aware that road is closed to 🚗 and motorists. One reason for that is because there are wild animals. However, I did not encounter any. Instead, the route is an old derelict road, at times derelict with grass and it leads to another red barrier a few kilometres away on the other side of the mountain. I would suggest you to ride with care for your safety as the road is abandoned, at times sedimented and also respect as this is perhaps the only quiet and wild part of the mountain ⛰️

The water is cool and potable. But you have to trespass the red gates to get to it.

I was just told they make amazing portokalopita from September onwards. The karydopita was a big portion probably for two. ALS what you see in the picture is a yogurt with honey and walnuts. healthier than walnut pie (καρυδόπιτα) and helpful for those continuing the ride There is also a fireplace if you want to sit inside

The image shows a bust of Dimitrios Plapoutas (1786-1864), a hero of the Greek War of Independence. Dimitrios Plapoutas was a prominent general and freedom fighter during the Greek Revolution of 1821. He came from Gortynia in Arcadia and was a close ally of Theodoros Kolokotronis, one of the central figures of the independence struggle. He was known as an excellent dancer and a brave warrior. The original bust was erected in the 1970s.

The Church of Saint Nicholas (Agios Nikolaos) in Isthmia is a Greek Orthodox church located near the eastern entrance to the canal. It serves as the religious center for the village of Isthmia, which is primarily known for the ancient Temple of Poseidon and the Isthmian Games held there.

At both ends of the canal (Posidonia in the west and Isthmia in the east) there are unique, submersible road bridges. When a ship approaches, the bridge does not pivot upwards or sideways, but is completely submerged in the water, until it lies about 11 meters deep on the canal floor. For tourists, it is a spectacle to watch the bridge resurface after the ship has passed and the water drains from the roadway.

Heinrich Schliemann had this house built in Athens between 1879 and 1881, designed by the architect Ernst Ziller. The interior is inspired by his excavations at Mycenae and Troy. Although it is called the "House or Hut of Troy," it is actually a palace in the neoclassical style. In 1926, Schliemann's widow, Sophia Engastromenos, was forced to sell the house to the Greek state due to financial difficulties. After renovation, it has been used as part of the Numismatic Museum since 1998. Teachers receive free admission (October 2025) Use fewer words
