The older hamlet of Twiste is north of the river and grew around the church and castle. In 1537 the sources already differentiate between old and new Twiste. The latter, also known as farms, hips or Niggen-Twiste, was built around this time near the aristocratic farm in addition to seven newly built farms subject to compulsory service by the then Landdrosten and Waldeck Bergrat. The domain courtyard is demolished after 1970 and the town hall and a multi-purpose hall are built in this area.
