The name "Chiesetta di San Giacomo in Ripa Scorticata" (or alternatively Saints Philip and James) refers to two important historical and religious testimonies in Northern and Central-Northern Italy: 1. The Church of San Giacomo in Ripa Scorticata (Cremona / Castelleone) The historical expression refers to an ancient medieval settlement dating back to before 1158, located in an area originally known as Ripa Scorticata, an elevated area along the banks of the ancient Serio river (today called Serio Morto), in the territory between Castelleone and San Bassano, in the province of Cremona. The ancient Pilgrim Hospice: The small church stood on the strategic Via Regina (the Roman military and commercial road that connected Cremona to Chiavenna). Attached to it was a xenodochium (or hospital), used for the reception and refreshment of devout pilgrims and passing "romei".

The legend of the deaf-mute child is linked to the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Fontane, located in Casaletto Ceredano, in the province of Cremona (Lombardy). Tradition has it that before 1687, an eight-year-old deaf-mute boy named Abele got lost in the local marshes. The Madonna appeared to him, took care of him by making a fountain spring forth, and restored his hearing and speech.

Very nice tour, the return phase could be improved as, although cyclable, it runs along the provincial road Crema - Lodi. NEW: an embankment has been built with a cycle path on top from Corte Palasio to the Casellario area, running along the Adda with a small bridge over the Tormo stream. Works in progress, it must be completed but is already passable. Beautiful, scenic and shady in the woods.

In view of this small wayside shrine, which the builders dedicated to the Madonna, I would like to offer the viewer a brief reflection from Saint Padre Pio (Pio da Pietrelcina, 1887 to 1968): “Always stay close to this Heavenly Mother, for she is the sea that must be crossed to reach the shores of eternal splendor.”

Church of San Pietro (Shrine of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) in the nearby village of Gera, an 18th-century Marian sanctuary entirely covered in marble and mosaics to celebrate the figure of the Virgin, present both inside and outside at the initiative of the priest Pietro Mizzi (parish priest of Pizzighettone until 1999) who dedicated his entire life to its embellishment.
