The Mincio cycle path (or Mantova-Peschiera cycle route) is a 43.5 km long cycle path that runs along the banks of the Mincio river, between the municipalities of Peschiera del Garda (VR) and Mantua. It is a bidirectional cycle path with a modest difference in altitude. Completed in 2006 and entirely asphalted, it follows one side of the famous quadrilateral fortified by the Austro-Hungarian Empire authorities in the first half of the 1800s. The starting point, if following the north-south route, is at the railway viaduct of Peschiera del Garda. The path begins on the right side of the Mincio, passing to the left side at the height of the town of Monzambano, near the Salionze dam. Shortly after, you can glimpse the Scaliger Castle of Valeggio sul Mincio and then reach Borghetto, a village characterized by its many water mills and the ruins of the Visconti bridge. From here, continue along the Mincio to Pozzolo, where you can find a variant for Volta Mantovana. Now the path begins to move away from the river, continuing along the canals of the Mantua plain. After about 20 km, you reach the city of Mantua. Here is the train station, but it is advisable to continue on the cycle-pedestrian path, which runs along Lake Mezzo, until you reach the castle of Mantua. The entire path is well signposted and has several support points. It is also very popular, especially in spring.
