Location: In the passage of the Einersheim Gate, behind the northern gate wing in front of the northern wall. Legend: During the Thirty Years' War, Swedish troops entered the town through the Einersheim Gate in 1632. A councilman tried to plead for mercy for the town and its inhabitants, but was stabbed by a mercenary. The cross was erected on the spot where he died.

The church was first documented in 1379; it has been known as St. John's Church since 1453. In 1593, the church became an Evangelical Lutheran parish church. The Catholic Prince Ferdinand von Schwarzenberg had the simultaneum installed for the village church in March 1701. The church is used for worship by the Ochsenfurt-Erlach parish, which belongs to the Würzburg deanery in the Ansbach-Würzburg church district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria. Catholic believers generally exercise their right of use only once a year, usually on Palm Sunday.

This is the Einersheim Gate in Iphofen. It is one of the four gates of the medieval city fortifications and is still very well preserved. Its solid construction is particularly impressive. Today, it's a great photo opportunity and a good starting point for a stroll through the old town.
