A beautiful village, a beautiful monastery with everything around it. The ice cream parlor just around the corner is particularly recommended.

St. George's Church in Hanstedt I, in the Uelzen district, is one of the oldest fieldstone churches in Northern Germany. The Romanesque nave probably dates back to 980. The Gothic choir, built of brick, was added around 1400 to 1500 and features a cross-ribbed vault. The current west tower dates from 1887 and replaced an earlier defensive tower. Particularly worth seeing is the late Gothic winged altar from the 15th century (ca. 1460–1470), which originally came from Ebstorf Monastery. Also impressive is the richly decorated Baroque pulpit from 1702, with its figurative decoration and symbolism. A painting of the Last Supper from the Reformation period and a rare altar gallery complete the furnishings. The organ was built in 1887 and renovated in 1970. The church remains the spiritual center of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation with approximately 925 members from Hanstedt I and surrounding villages. It is located at the starting point of the Resurrection Trail, a 4-kilometer-long spiritual path with 13 art stations that leads to the monastery church in Ebstorf.
