🌉🚂 The railway bridge of the Tecklenburger Nordbahn is a striking engineering structure that spans the Dortmund-Ems Canal (DEK) in the area between Rheine and Hörstel. It is an important relic and, at the same time, a symbol for the intended reactivation of rail traffic in the region.

🚲✨ The Dortmund-Ems Canal (DEK) is not only one of Germany's most important waterways, but also a true open-air museum for bridge architecture. On its way from Dortmund to Papenburg, the canal is spanned by hundreds of structures or – even more spectacularly – it crosses rivers itself as a bridge.

The old rectory in Schapen was built in 1739. Today it serves as a meeting place, educational center, and exhibition space. The attic houses an exhibition about the "Tödden"—itinerant merchants from the region—as well as about the Schapen coin hoard. Guided tours are available upon request (phone: +49 5458 98510; email: schapen@spelle.de). However, the complex is well worth a visit even without a guided tour. In addition to the former rectory, the grounds include a former brewery (now used for weddings), a blacksmith's shop built in 2012, and a bakehouse from 2020 where "Schapen Bishop's Bread" is baked. Right next door is the community park with a pond, paths, seating, a pétanque court, and a small playground. It's a place that invites visitors to linger.
