The old rectory in Schapen was built in 1739. Today it serves as a meeting place, educational center, and exhibition space. The attic houses an exhibition about the "Tödden"—itinerant merchants from the region—as well as about the Schapen coin hoard. Guided tours are available upon request (phone: +49 5458 98510; email: schapen@spelle.de). However, the complex is well worth a visit even without a guided tour. In addition to the former rectory, the grounds include a former brewery (now used for weddings), a blacksmith's shop built in 2012, and a bakehouse from 2020 where "Schapen Bishop's Bread" is baked. Right next door is the community park with a pond, paths, seating, a pétanque court, and a small playground. It's a place that invites visitors to linger.

Tödden exhibition in the old Schapen rectory. The old rectory, a pastor's house of the Reformed congregation, is an important architectural monument in the municipality of Schapen and now serves as a community center. A historic brewery and an old village blacksmith's shop are also located in the vicinity of the old half-timbered house. The Schapen Local History Society has set up an exhibition on the history of the traveling merchants in the attic. Source: Information sign on site (see also photos) The garden at the museum is freely accessible, and the half-timbered houses are lovely to look at. Public restrooms in excellent condition are located in front of the museum complex. You can also refill your water bottles there if needed.

A lovingly designed square with a large craftsman's tree and a shepherd's monument with sheep sculptures. This beautifully illustrates the town's history.
