The best strudel I've ever eaten in the area, six out of five stars! The refuge is easily accessible and very nice, reasonable prices, friendly staff. The Schlipkrapfen are also very good!

The Bonner Hütte was built in South Tyrol from 1884 to 1887, but was expropriated by Italy in 1919. To replace the lost hut in South Tyrol, the two Bonn and Matrei sections of the DuOeAV, which were seeking a partner due to the poor economic situation at the time, jointly built the Bonn-Matreier Hütte in 1931/1932, located on the Venediger Höhenweg. It was opened on August 14, 1932. In the early 1980s, the hut was extensively remodeled and expanded. In the 1990s, a new material cable car with expanded factory transport was built. At the beginning of the new millennium, the hut was equipped with a wastewater disposal system (filter bag system) and a modern energy supply system (combined heat and power plant with biodiesel and photovoltaic system). 40 dormitories and 13 beds in the rooms offer accommodation for hikers and mountaineers. This is the only German-Austrian hut community in the Alps to date that has survived all the turmoil of time.
