⛪ One of the most important and fascinating monuments in Palermo, in the heart of the historic center. The Cathedral of Palermo tells centuries of history through an incredible mix of architectural styles, the result of the different dominations that have followed one another in Sicily. Inside, you will also find the tombs of important sovereigns, including Frederick II of Swabia, while the monumental complex allows you to discover some of the most precious environments of the Cathedral. 📸 Beautiful to photograph both from the outside, with its towers and decorations, and in the numerous details of the interiors. A stop that I consider unmissable for those visiting Palermo. ❤️

The Cathedral of Palermo (officially Cattedrale della Santa Vergine Maria Assunta) is the architectural heart of the Sicilian capital and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2015. Like few other buildings, it reflects the varied, multicultural history of Sicily, as over the centuries it has combined influences from the Normans, Arabs, Byzantines, and European Baroque master builders.

The Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, commonly known as Politeama, is a theatre located in Piazza Ruggero Settimo, at the end of Viale della Libertà. Home to the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, it is considered the "heart" of the city. Its construction was started in 1867 by Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda and inaugurated in 1874, although incomplete and without a roof. The building, as conceived, aimed to exalt its social function as a "Theatre of the people": the horseshoe-shaped hall in 1874 indeed had a capacity of 5,000 spectators, a double row of boxes, and a gallery divided into two tiers. The entrance to the structure is characterized by a neoclassical-inspired triumphal arch, topped by a quadriga with a bronze Apollo, a work by Mario Rutelli. The term "Politeama" indicates a generic theatre where various types of performances are given.
