Climb to Casabermeja

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Highly recommended! I think there are only 2 quick and mostly hassle-free ways out of the city and this is one of them. (The other being the Puerte del Leon climb). Hardly any motorised traffic, nice views, and manageable gradients all the way to Casabermeja. Don't miss this one, I promise you'll enjoy it.

Add this whole highlight to your route, don't add a singular waypoint because otherwise Komoot will trick you into a 15% gradient at Las Pitas.

Beautiful small and idyllic lake near Málaga. Unfortunately not completely clean and you can find a lot of garbage here. Nevertheless, a trip is worthwhile.

El Limonero Reservoir Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

This panoramic point undoubtedly offers the best views of the reservoir. It is deviating a few meters from the path and deserves to do so. You can combine the tour visiting the Botanical Park of La Concepción which is really beautiful.

This section of the route offers a steady but noticeable climb and magnificent views. It gains approximately 500 meters in elevation, beginning gently and gradually increasing. The route leads through a diverse hilly landscape with olive groves and sweeping views of the Andalusian countryside. Shortly before Casabermeja, a somewhat steeper section awaits before reaching the white village at an elevation of approximately 550 meters. Once at the top, traditional inns and restaurants invite you to take a well-deserved break while enjoying the peace and quiet and the view of the mountains.

A large dam with beautiful and easy access on foot. You can park your car nearby, but there are barriers that prevent vehicle access. Bicycles can pass, but always at a reduced speed and without disturbing pedestrians, which isn't difficult because the access road/path is very wide. The views of the city of Málaga, seen divided by the riverbed, are very beautiful. A visit is highly recommended. I also recommend taking the opportunity to visit the botanical garden right next to it. I assure you, you'll be amazed.

It doesn't usually have much water; it's a reservoir that feeds the river that runs through the city of Málaga, but when it has water, it's beautiful.

January 6, 2025, Agujero Dam

The Agujero Reservoir lies north of Málaga in the Guadalmedina river basin. Built in 1908 to prevent flooding, the dam is no longer in use. Because the risk of flooding persisted for Málaga despite the dam, the Limonero Dam was later constructed downstream.

January 4, 2025, Agujero Dam

The Agujero Reservoir, also known as the Agujero Dam, is a reservoir located a few kilometers north of Málaga in the Guadalmedina River valley. The Agujero Dam was built in 1908 and is currently not in use. The Agujero Dam and the Agujero Reservoir were intended to prevent the persistent flooding caused by the Guadalmedina River as it flows through Málaga. Following the devastating flood of 1907, the construction of the Hole Swamp and Dam was promoted, resulting in numerous casualties and widespread destruction. However, later studies revealed that even after the construction of this dam, the risk of flooding remained in the city of Málaga. Therefore, years later, the Limonero Dam was built two kilometers downstream.

Do road climbs get any better? Very quiet road twisting up the hill away from the busy city of Malaga. Great views of the city throughout
