It is an idyllic place of prayer and meditation: outside the city, in a quiet corner in the middle of the Sulzhau deciduous forest, the Mariengrotte is located next to a spring. After 1945, the grotto was built by returning soldiers. The grotto, which was restored in 2007 and made wheelchair accessible, is complemented by a seating area and a Stations of the Cross. Wooden panels describe the suffering of Christ.

The Marienquelle was first mentioned in 1863 as the so-called Heiligenborn in the Marmer church chronicle, where its water was praised as "excellent water". It is a tradition to pause at the spring to rest and relax.

The current Martinskirche was rebuilt in 1774 on the site of a predecessor church that had been demolished due to dilapidation, and in an expanded form. The interior design in Baroque style with a richly decorated pulpit and organ loft is noteworthy. In 1984, the interior was extensively restored while retaining the surrounding galleries, with a new, uniform color scheme. The year of construction, 1774, was also proven here. In the slightly elevated chancel, there is an anatomically well-designed crucifix, created around 1470, as well as a baptismal font preserved from the Romanesque period. In 1902, a new organ replaced its predecessor from 1818. The tower dates from several eras. There was already a church tower clock in 1695. After a lightning strike in 1722, the tower received a newly erected octagonal bell storey with a superimposed helmet. A comprehensive renovation with partial re-roofing took place in 2017, during which the tower capsule was supplemented with current information about Hochdorf. The churchyard was a burial place for the villagers until 1843. Parts of the massive churchyard wall are still present.
