July 22, 2026, Tiny Marsh Provincial Wildlife Area

Spanning 8.5 square kilometres of marshes, open water, bogs, and upland forests, the Tiny Marsh Provincial Wildlife Area is Ontario’s inaugural provincially managed wetland and a recognized Important Bird Area (IBA) for birdwatching and nature photography. 250 species of birds have been recorded here, including nesting ospreys, 11 species of ducks, and provincially threatened species like the Least Bittern and Black Tern. The site is explorable though elevated dike trails above the water, along with boardwalks, observation towers and an interpretive centre designed for wildlife viewing and education.

July 22, 2026, South Cell

A lot of the South Cell can be seen from a wide dirt road that traces the southern body of water's eastern edge. The road is built along a dike and is popular with bikers and hikers, with a flat, straight path to follow. There is little to no shade, so come prepared.

July 22, 2026, North Cell

The North Cell is a small seasonal vernal pool surrounded by earthen dikes and wetlands. Tiny Marsh Provincial Wildlife Area does not have two formally named ponds. Instead, it is classified as a singular 600-hectare marsh complex feeding the headwaters of the Wye River.

This is a rare section of forest clearing, where the open space offers a different perspective from the surrounding woodland. It's a great spot to appreciate the contrast between the dense coastal forest and the park's more open landscape.

Set within the Wasaga Beach Provincial Park, and just one of the extensive network of trails here. You'll hike through one of the rarest ecosystems in Canada, the pine-oak savannah. It is characterised as an open forest of oak and pine mixed with prairie plants.

June 23, 2026, Harbourview Trail

This trail is named for the park it borders, not for the actual views, as they're much better from the other side of the park. Still, this pathway makes for pleasant walking and forms part of a walkable loop that goes all the way around Optimist Harbourview Park.

This park is a beautiful mix of urban wetlands and woodlands, boardwalk, natural-surface tracks, and a touch of industrial harbour scenery.
