The next Aire, a lock-keeper's house taken over by an association, is at once a cycle route rest area, café/restaurant, bivouac area, open-air café/performance venue, self-repair workshop, grocery store, coworking space... As indicated by Lorenzo, it is possible to spend a night in a dormitory... depending on the number of volunteers (and therefore the space remaining available). I sent a message in advance to check if they could host me during my round trip from Montereau-Fault-Yonne to Vézelay. I highly recommend it...

The church of Saint-Germain de La Ferté-Loupière has rare and well-preserved medieval murals, with the absolute highlight being an authentic Danse Macabre (Dance of Death) from the late 15th century.

The Yonne is a significant river, approximately 292 kilometers long, in northern France, which flows into the Seine as its most important left tributary. In ancient times, the watercourse bore the Gallic name Icaunus, named after a river goddess, from which the current designation for the inhabitants of the region (Icaunais) is also derived. Geography and course of the river The Yonne originates in the Morvan hills in the Nièvre department, in the municipality of Glux-en-Glenne, at an altitude of about 738 meters. From there, it flows predominantly in a north-westerly direction through the Paris Basin. Finally, it flows into the Seine near the town of Montereau-Fault-Yonne in the Seine-et-Marne department. It traverses three departments and gives its name to the Yonne department. Navigation and tourism The river is of great importance for boat tourism and freight transport: Navigability: The Yonne is navigable from the historic town of Auxerre for a length of 108 kilometers downstream. Locks & canals: A total of 26 locks regulate the water level along this stretch. In addition, the Yonne is connected to other major French waterways (such as the Loire and the Rhône) via the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal de Bourgogne. Important towns on the banks: Among the best-known historical settlements along the river are Auxerre with its rich cultural heritage, Joigny, and the town of Sens.
