Geography and course of the river
The Yonne originates in the Morvan hills in the Nièvre department, in the municipality of Glux-en-Glenne, at an altitude of about 738 meters. From there, it flows predominantly in a north-westerly direction through the Paris Basin. Finally, it flows into the Seine near the town of Montereau-Fault-Yonne in the Seine-et-Marne department. It traverses three departments and gives its name to the Yonne department.
