Technically not permitted, but a fab climb from the Portbury end. Narrow at first, it gradually opens up to a comfortable width should you encounter any other people. Slightly loose surface but no real difficulties other than the relentless gradient. Love it.

As per the title - there's a path by the Grotto that is permanently closed, sadly - so you may end up having to double back. But it's pretty either way

Arrive at the bottom for midday on a sunny day to get the glorious sunshine on the pool. Great stream wading for children on the other side of the path.

It's a dead end path but lovely view of the Avon from the Grotto - a little shelter

This fine viewpoint offers panoramic views north to the Avonmouth Docks, the Severn Estuary, the Second Severn Bridge and to South Wales. The outlook occurs on exiting a wood below the summit of Windmill Hill (122 m elevation) - a location just 1 km southwest of the outer Bristol suburb of Easton-in-Gordano. If you are on a long-distance walk heading northeast across the River Avon and Bristol, please note that this may be your last scenic open view for a while!
