Traffic-free bike rides around Sestriere
This hill is best appreciated when climbing from Monfol because it offers an excellent panoramic viewpoint over the Chisone valley. You arrive at the end of a long traverse, very restful especially if cycled due to the moderate gradients. The downside is the significant traffic of off-road vehicles, almost all foreign, that use the beautiful high-altitude road known as the Strada dell'Assietta. Make sure to refuel along the way BEFORE the pass, taking advantage of the many streams, because from the pass onwards, whether heading towards Sestriere or towards the Assietta, you'll find almost no water... and there's a lot of dust! Another recommendation: avoid this route if a thunderstorm threatens, as there are no shelters and you risk serious lightning strikes!

An authentic and unmissable refuge where we stopped during our mountain bike crossing of the Assietta with my friend. Two incredible days filled with the beauty of the surroundings and exceptional autumn light. One night at 2500m altitude at the Casa Assietta refuge, where we were welcomed like royalty by Roberto! A good night's sleep under the covers after the host had prepared an excellent dinner for us! Thank you, Roberto!

A beautiful stretch that allows you to reach the Argentera Valley more easily, or with more effort Cima del Bosco

To eat at the refuge, it's best to book to be sure of a first course of polenta ;-)

The summer months, typically from June to September, are ideal for gravel biking in Sestriere. During this period, the high mountain passes are clear of snow, and the weather is generally favorable. The region transforms from a winter sports hub into a paradise for cyclists, offering extensive no-traffic routes through alpine meadows and rocky landscapes.
Yes, Sestriere offers several excellent circular routes. A notable option is the Assietta gravel ring from Sestriere, a challenging 59 km trail with substantial elevation gain. Another great loop is the Col Basset – Blegier Pass loop from Sestriere, covering about 42 km through high mountain passes.
Sestriere's trails offer breathtaking views and access to unique natural and historical sites. You can encounter stunning mountain passes like Col Basset and Blegier Pass, offering panoramic vistas across the Susa and Chisone Valleys. The region is also home to serene alpine lakes such as Lac Gignoux (Lake of Seven Colours) and Lago Nero di Bousson, perfect for a scenic stop.
While many of Sestriere's gravel trails are rated as difficult due to significant elevation and technical sections, there are options that can be adapted or are less demanding. Sestriere itself offers a range of amenities, including cafes, restaurants, and accommodation, as it is a well-established resort town. However, many of the high-mountain gravel routes traverse remote alpine terrain. It's advisable to carry sufficient water and snacks, as services may be sparse or non-existent on the trails themselves. Plan your stops carefully, especially on longer routes.

The extensive network of trails through diverse landscapes, from lush meadows to rocky scree, is also a major draw.
While general access to most trails is free, some sections of the historic military roads, like parts of the Strada dell'Assietta, may have specific regulations or limited access days, particularly during peak season or for environmental protection. It's always recommended to check local signage and official Sestriere tourism information for any specific restrictions or temporary closures before heading out.
