The memorial was made from a stone block that was placed north of the "heath hill" and was intended to resemble a sarcophagus. The stone soldiers' heads attached to the narrow sides came from the workshop of Albert Mazzotti (1882 - 1951), and the design of the memorial as a whole was by Wilhelm Wucherpfennig (1894 - 1970). The Borken stonemasonry company Josef Sondermann was responsible for the construction of the stone block and the engraving of a memorial motto and the names of 176 fallen soldiers. The inauguration of the memorial was one of the highlights of the anniversary celebrations and took place on Sunday, September 12, 1926 with great participation from the population. The Wedemhove Tower is one of the 5 city towers in Borken. It is generally known as the artist's tower, has an outer diameter of 6 m and is 15 m high. The walls are 1 m thick at the bottom and 0.80 m thick at the top. In 1908, the stair tower was added following a suggestion by the conservator Sudhoff in Münster. The tower and stair tower were given a conical roof. (Source: www.borken.de/tourismus/sehenswertes) A Falken webcam is installed on the tower, which is to be reactivated in spring 2025. The city park (formerly known as Luna Park or Volkspark) with its partly very old trees and extensive lawns and green areas borders directly on Borken's city center and invites you to linger and relax with its numerous benches. There is a wonderful play area for children.
