The historic Kiel boat harbor used to be a trading harbor, but boats have not been moored here for a long time. Today it is a popular meeting place with seating steps on the water, a stage and a floating pontoon. Since 2015, the Holstenfleet has connected it again with Kleiner Kiel. Many events take place here, especially during Kiel Week and the boat harbor summer. A walk around the boat harbor is always worthwhile. It is 1/3 km long.

In the middle of Kiel's pedestrian zone, a mayor sits on a bench and you can touch him. The touching is to be understood in a double sense here, because the bronze figure by the sculptor Frauke Wehberg actually invites passers-by to linger. The person depicted, the former mayor and city chronicler Asmus Bremer (1652–1720), was considered particularly popular and close to the people in his time. For several decades until his death, he played a decisive role in the development of his city. Today, the bronze figure, the square named after him and the annual "Kieler Umschlag" folk festival are reminders of his work. The artist depicts her figure realistically and with great attention to detail, right down to the folds of her clothing. But unlike the historical statues of Kaiser Wilhelm I or Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, who are larger than life and pose on high pedestals, removed from the people, this bronze figure speaks the democratic language of our time: portrayed slightly smaller and sitting relaxed in the midst of the hustle and bustle of his fellow citizens, he is one of them who only stands out because of his historical clothing. Data on the work: Frauke Wehberg: Monument to Asmus Bremer (1982, bronze, height approx. 1.4 m) Asmus-Bremer-Platz / Holstenstraße, 24103 Kiel (suburb) Route planner: 54.3211, 10.13494 https://sh-kunst.de/frauke-wehberg-asmus-bremer/

You almost automatically pass it on your way through the city and anyone who knew the area before the redesign will know how cozy and idyllic it has become since then. On warm days you can sit by the water and just relax or meet up with friends.
