It's fun to watch the goats. However, it is important to adhere to the feeding ban in order not to endanger the animals' health.

This is a very nice part of the NaturParkWanderWeg Westensee section: view of the lake, natural paths and largely intact tree structure.

The Eider, Schleswig-Holstein's longest river, stretches 188 kilometers from its source to its mouth in the North Sea. The river begins in the hilly moraine region south of Kiel, more precisely at the Heickenteich and a small lake on the Schönhagen estate. From there, the Eider winds its way through the state in numerous twists and turns, initially as the Upper Eider, past Rendsburg, where it empties into the Kiel Canal. The river's course is interrupted by the canal but continues westward until it empties into the North Sea near Tönning.

The 250 square kilometer large, varied landscape mosaic in the middle of the Kiel-Flensburg-Neumünster triangle is accessible via the nature park hiking trail. The trail is marked with a yellow arrow with a green border. The total length of the nature park hiking trail is 118 kilometers.

The Evangelical Lutheran St. Catherine's Church in Westensee is under the patronage of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The fieldstone building dates mainly from the first half of the 13th century. The Gothic choir and the massive brick west tower were added later. Burial chapels for local nobles have been added to the north and east sides. Inside is the epitaph of Daniel von Rantzau, the oldest Renaissance work of art in Schleswig-Holstein. The church was extensively restored at the beginning of 2025.
