During wintertime you can come here and start hiking from this point along the ski-tracks. At that time it is not the quietest place because of the many skiers.

Path to climb to Breuil-Cervina, you have the road and at the bottom you have an easy path that goes directly to Breuil-Cervina, path that was unfortunately damaged by bad weather but the municipality quickly did some work to redo the path. With a view of the Golf and if you go back up and cross the road you will find a hotel and a picnic area that overlooks a blue lake. Very pretty.

We stayed at the Rifugio Teodulo for one night as part of our mountaineering training course. Very friendly hosts and good food. They are also pretty good for sleeping quarters. However, we were more than disappointed by the sparse breakfast. Before climbing a 4000m peak, you want more than two cookies 😅

In the sparse larch forest you have a particularly beautiful view of the Matterhorn.

Yes, for an easier experience, you can take a cable car from Breuil-Cervinia to Plan Maison. From there, a relatively easy walk of about 30-60 minutes leads directly to Lake Goillet. While not a direct bus-to-trailhead, the combination offers a very accessible option for families. For a moderate loop from Breuil-Cervinia, consider the Photo spot – Blue Lake loop, which is around 6.7 km and offers beautiful views.
Hikers are treated to spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding high granite peaks, including the Grandes Murailles range, Dent d'Hérens, Punta Margherita, and Les Jumeaux. A primary draw is the majestic Matterhorn, often dramatically reflected in Lake Goillet's turquoise waters. You'll also traverse vibrant alpine pastures, and may encounter local wildlife like marmots, chamois, and ibex.

Generally, dogs are welcome on hiking trails in the Lake Goillet area. However, it's crucial to keep them on a leash, especially in alpine pastures where grazing livestock may be present, and to protect local wildlife. Always carry water for your dog and be mindful of their paws on rocky terrain. Check local signage for any specific restrictions.
The trails range from easy to difficult. While there are 4 easy routes, the majority are moderate (18 routes) or difficult (21 routes). Beyond the natural beauty, the Goillet Dam itself is an impressive landmark. Constructed between 1939 and 1948, this monumental artificial reservoir is a significant example of 20th-century mountain engineering and provides a unique backdrop to the natural scenery. Many trails, like the View of the Matterhorn – Goillet Reservoir loop, incorporate views of both the lake and the dam.
Given the alpine environment, even for bus-accessible routes, it's essential to pack layers of clothing, sturdy hiking boots, rain gear, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), plenty of water, and snacks. A map or GPS device is also recommended. For longer or more challenging routes, trekking poles can be beneficial.
