We came here later the day, the Cypress Trees were in shadow then already. Still could get some nice photos. If you want the golden hour light then I recommend visiting the area in the morning. Also the track down from the parking spot near the restaurant is not maintained. Prepare for hiking through rough underground high grass and grane fields. The way back we walked along the street uphill. At that hour it was still very busy. So be careful here.

The komoot community has mapped over 190 hiking trails in the Riserva Naturale Lucciola Bella area. Many of these, including 81 easy and 96 moderate routes, are suitable for families looking to explore the unique Tuscan landscape.
The trails in this region often traverse the iconic Crete Senesi, characterized by rolling clay hills. You'll encounter fascinating geological formations like calanchi (eroded furrows) and biancane (dome-shaped knolls). Paths are generally accessible, but expect unpaved surfaces that can be muddy after rain or dusty in dry conditions.
Yes, there are several easy options. For a pleasant, shorter walk, consider the Cypress Trees in Val d'Orcia loop from Dopolavoro Rurale la Foce. It's just under 6 km and offers beautiful scenery without significant elevation.
Spring (April-May) and Autumn (September-October) are generally ideal. The weather is milder, and the landscape offers stunning colors – vibrant green in spring and golden hues in autumn. Summers can be hot, making early mornings or late afternoons preferable for hiking.
Due to the natural terrain, including rolling clay hills, calanchi, and unpaved paths, most trails are not suitable for conventional strollers. We recommend using a sturdy off-road stroller or a baby carrier for younger children to navigate the varied surfaces comfortably.
You'll be immersed in the breathtaking landscapes of the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Look out for the famous cypress-lined road leading to the Lucciola Bella farm, which offers incredible panoramic views. The unique calanchi and biancane geological formations are also prominent features of the area.
Riserva Naturale Lucciola Bella is a haven for biodiversity, especially birdlife. Keep an eye out for species like the Lanner falcon, Stone curlew, Montagu's harrier, and various larks. The reserve's diverse flora also adds to the natural beauty.
Absolutely! Many of the family-friendly trails are circular, allowing you to start and end at the same point. An excellent option is the La Foce Loop, which provides a moderate challenge and beautiful views, perfect for a family day out.
Yes, parking is generally available at common starting points for trails, such as near the Dopolavoro Rurale la Foce or other designated areas. It's always a good idea to check the specific route details on komoot for precise parking information for your chosen trail.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.4 stars from over 1700 ratings. Reviewers often praise the stunning panoramic views of the Val d'Orcia, the unique geological formations, and the tranquil atmosphere that makes for a perfect escape into nature.
We recommend comfortable, layered clothing suitable for the season. Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip are essential, as paths can be uneven, especially on the clayey terrain. Don't forget sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and plenty of water, especially during warmer months.
While some larger towns in the Val d'Orcia region are accessible by public transport, reaching the specific trailheads within Riserva Naturale Lucciola Bella can be challenging without a car. We recommend checking local bus schedules or considering a taxi service from nearby towns like Pienza or Montepulciano for direct access to the starting points.
