The Rossweiher and Waschweiher ponds used to be much larger and were actually only separated by the Feuchter Straße, which acted like a dam. If you look at earlier town plans from the 16th and 17th centuries, it becomes clear that these two ponds were planned as part of the fortifications in front of the Upper Gate.
