Natural Paradise on the Werdenberg Inland Canal Adventure Trail In 2024, the Werdenberg Inland Canal near Sevelen was redesigned to bring it closer to nature over a distance of approximately two kilometers. An adventure trail guides visitors through the revitalized area and provides insights into the flora and fauna. Opening Ceremony on June 21, 2025 in Sevelen The public opening ceremony for the revitalization of the Werdenberg Inland Canal will take place in Sevelen on Saturday, June 21. Guided tours will provide visitors with fascinating insights into the newly created habitat and natural paradise. For almost a year, the waters of the Werdenberg Inland Canal in Sevelen have been flowing through the newly created river and floodplain landscape. Construction and maintenance work have now been completed. In addition, 3,380 trees and shrubs were planted along the newly designed inland canal. The emerging natural oasis will be presented to the public at a public opening ceremony on Saturday, June 21st. The event begins at 11 a.m. in the marquee at the Auhof farm of Gemüsebau Giger in Sevelen. Mayor Eduard Neuhaus, who is also president of the Werdenberger Binnenkanal company, will discuss the origins of the revitalization measures and the project's progress with project manager Dominik Wäger. In a panel discussion, Susanne Hartmann, St. Gallen's government councilor and head of the Department of Construction and the Environment, and Beat Tinner, head of the Office for Nature, Hunting and Fishing, will also highlight the significance of the newly created natural oasis and habitat from the perspective of the Canton of St. Gallen and its politicians.
