Tips from the Community

JakobusPilger
March 7, 2025, Stone Cross Memorial (G.G.G. 2007)

At first glance at the small sacred monument that the hiker or walker encounters here along the path, it's quite understandable that the person who added it as a highlight in the komoot system would have labeled it "Old Stone Cross" (update: name has since been changed). However, upon closer inspection, the bottom line of the inscription—engraved at the lower end of the longitudinal beam, it stands out clearly against the light background—begs a contradiction, as it reads "MMVII" in Roman numerals, the year 2007. It's possible, however, that an older cross had previously stood here, already worn down by the proverbial "tooth of time," and was therefore replaced by this newer one less than two decades ago.
