The Hermann Oberth Space Museum is located in the former gatekeeper's house of Pfinzing Castle. When Councilor Dr. Christoph Gottlieb Scheurl von Defersdorf took over Pfinzing Castle in 1682, the walled courtyard contained the single-story gatekeeper's house with a gatekeeper's apartment, a draw well, a two-story annex with tenement apartments, and various agricultural outbuildings. After numerous changes of ownership, the future honorary citizen and space pioneer Prof. Dr. Hermann Oberth acquired Pfinzing Castle in 1943. During and after the war, it served as a refuge for emigrants from the East. In 1971, a museum, today's Hermann Oberth Space Museum, was established on the first floor. Finally, in 1988, the town of Feucht purchased the castle. It was thoroughly renovated, and the hall was restored to its original form and size. The Space Museum moved into the former gatekeeper's house. Founded in 1971, the museum is dedicated to the life's work of Professor Hermann Oberth (1894-1989). Through his groundbreaking discoveries, the space pioneer laid the scientific foundations for a new technology that made space travel possible. An exhibition area of approximately 160 square meters showcases everything that makes space travel and rocket technology so fascinating, from the first rockets and satellites to the landing on the moon, from interplanetary space probes to the International Space Station. Since 1989, the town of Feucht has provided the space for the museum named after its honorary citizen. A memorial in the oak grove commemorates the "father of space travel." Professor Hermann Oberth found his final resting place in the New Cemetery in an honorary grave of the town of Feucht.
