July 20, 2026, Aussichtspunkt Hörnle mit König Wilhelm Gedenkstein

Together with King Wilhelm I.'s 60th birthday (1781-1864), the 25th anniversary of King Wilhelm's reign was celebrated in 1841 in Stuttgart and in other municipalities in Württemberg. In Stuttgart, the anniversary celebrations were marked by a large festive procession, to which almost 200,000 spectators from all over the country had flocked. The Jubilee Column was erected on the Schlossplatz, monuments were erected and consecrated throughout the country in honor of King Wilhelm, such as in Bissingen in a prominent location on the Hörnle below Teck Castle. The inscription on the base of the marble monument reads: "To the beloved King Wilhelm the 30th of October 1841 the grateful and loyal Bissingen residents".

This scenic tour offers the opportunity to discover all the treasures of the cultural landscape between Heckengäu and Schönbuch. In Nürtingen-Oberensingen, you'll find the "Country Life and Luxury" station. Looking through the window, you can see the Villa Rustica, the remains of a Roman estate.

The villa rustica, a former Roman estate, is located in the heart of a new development in Oberensingen, a district of the town of Nürtingen in the Esslingen district of Baden-Württemberg. During development work in 1988 in the new development area "In den Seelen" in Nürtingen, sections of walls were discovered that were part of a Roman estate. The site is located on the southeast slope of Nürtingen's Galgenberg hill. In 1988, parts of the estate were excavated by the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Monument Protection, and the town of Nürtingen and volunteers from the Swabian Homeland Association continued the work in 1989 and 1990. The estate was built around 100 AD and later expanded several times. The property was surrounded by a wall enclosing an area of approximately 280 × 180 meters. This makes it one of the largest Roman estates in Baden-Württemberg. Immediately after 223 AD, the complex was destroyed by fire. It is believed that the fire was caused by an Alemanni invasion. After the archaeological investigations were completed, the remaining remains of the walls were restored by the city of Nürtingen, with technical and financial support from the State Office for Monument Protection. The objects found during the excavations are on display at the Nürtingen City Museum, Wörthstraße 1. The Swabian Homeland Association offers guided tours of the archaeological monument. The grounds are freely accessible to visitors. The estate is located on the Roman road Neckar-Alb-Aare. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_rustica_(N%C3%BCrtingen)
