Because the weather is always great year-round, this is my 14th trip and I love it, and Playa de las Conchas on La Graciosa is the most beautiful and popular beach in the Canary Islands. That's true, but the walk there from the port is quite strenuous. However, once you know what awaits you, it's all forgotten. My tip if you want to try it: take the first ferry from Orzola (Lanzarote) to La Graciosa at 8:00 AM. You'll arrive there at 8:30 AM. Then go to one of the small supermarkets and get drinks, filled baguettes, etc., put them in your backpack, and off you go, always along the coast. You'll be surprised how peaceful the world can be because, apart from the waves and the wind, you hear nothing else. If that isn't relaxation, I don't know what is. If you also take a towel, you can lie down in one of the numerous bays on the way to Playa de las Conchas and linger for a while, enjoying the scenery, and then continue your walk. You won't be disappointed.

The trail is easy to follow. The beauty and uniqueness of the landscape are well presented over a few kilometers. Unfortunately, the information boards have been worn down by the ravages of time and are partially illegible.

Lanzarote offers a fantastic selection of family-friendly hiking trails. You'll find over 400 easy routes, perfect for exploring with children, alongside many moderate options for families seeking a bit more adventure.
Lanzarote's unique volcanic landscapes provide an 'otherworldly' experience for families. Hiking here means exploring solidified lava fields, craters, and dramatic coastlines, often feeling like you're on another planet. The island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, offering diverse natural features that are both educational and exciting for all ages.
The mild, temperate climate of Lanzarote makes it an excellent year-round hiking destination. However, the period from October to April is particularly pleasant, with comfortable temperatures typically ranging from 17°C to 24°C (63°F to 75°F), ideal for family outings.
The family-friendly trails in Lanzarote are highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.45 stars. Reviewers often praise the unique volcanic scenery, the accessibility of many routes, and the opportunity to experience the island's distinctive natural beauty with children.
Yes, there are several easy circular routes perfect for families. A popular choice is the Caldera of the Crows – Montaña del Cuervo loop from Caldera de los Cuervos Parking, which allows you to walk across volcanic ashes and even enter the interior of a crater, making for a memorable family adventure.
Absolutely! Lanzarote offers incredible opportunities to explore volcanic craters. The Caldera of the Crows – Montaña del Cuervo loop is a fantastic family-friendly option where you can walk into the crater itself. For a more challenging but rewarding experience, the Caldera Blanca loop takes you to the rim of the largest volcanic crater in the Canary Islands, offering breathtaking panoramic views.
Lanzarote boasts dramatic coastal paths where black lava rock cliffs meet the Atlantic Ocean. While some are more rugged, many sections offer stunning views suitable for families. The island of La Graciosa, accessible by ferry, also features pristine beaches and coastal trails like the La Graciosa – south coast to Montaña Amarilla route, which combines coastal views with volcanic landscapes.
While many natural areas in Lanzarote are dog-friendly, it's always best to check specific park regulations, especially within protected areas like Timanfaya National Park. Generally, on less restricted trails, dogs are welcome if kept on a leash and waste is properly disposed of. Always ensure your dog is comfortable with the terrain and weather conditions.
For most family-friendly trails outside of Timanfaya National Park, no specific permits are required. However, within Timanfaya National Park, some routes, such as the Tremesana Route, require a guided tour and advance booking to preserve the delicate ecosystem. It's advisable to check the park's official website for the latest information on guided tours and access.
On family-friendly hikes in Lanzarote, you can expect a variety of unique terrains. Many trails feature volcanic ash, solidified lava fields, and rocky paths. Coastal routes offer sandy stretches and paths along dramatic cliffs. While some paths are smooth, others can be uneven, so sturdy footwear is recommended for all family members.
After a family hike, Lanzarote offers several interesting attractions. You could explore historical sites like San José Castle or Las Coloradas Castle. For natural wonders, consider visiting viewpoints like Mirador del Río for stunning vistas of La Graciosa, or exploring unique geological formations such as Las Grietas (Barranco Negro).
While many trailheads are best reached by car, some areas in Lanzarote are served by public transport, particularly those closer to towns or popular tourist spots. For example, routes around the Montaña Cuervo area might be accessible via bus routes that pass through nearby villages. It's recommended to check local bus schedules and routes in advance to plan your journey to specific trailheads.
