A captivating television series for culture enthusiasts presents hundreds of special places and sites around the world. Despite their differences in era and purpose, these remarkable symbols of civilization's history share one commonality: they are recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. The accompanying text for the episode about Graz's old town states: "The roots of the city of Graz in Styria lie on the Schlossberg (Castle Hill). The Schlossbergsteig consists of five superimposed staircase sections with a total of 260 steps, connecting Schlossbergplatz with the Clock Tower. Construction of the ascent began in 1914, was suspended during World War I, and was subsequently completed in 1916. The ceremonial opening took place on June 1, 1918, under the name "Kriegssteig" (War Trail). From 1924 to 1928, it was expanded to include the "Jubiläums-Steig" (Anniversary Trail) along the western cliffs. The ascent is definitely worth it, as it offers a magnificent view over the rooftops of Graz.
