The Rossel ruin in the Niederwald landscape park near Rüdesheim is an artificially constructed castle ruin. Count Johann Friedrich von Ostein began developing the Niederwald as a hunting ground in 1764; thirty years later, he had artificial antiquities such as the ruin built there. In the spirit of late Baroque garden culture, these elaborate structures served for entertainment and landscape design. The Rossel castle ruin stands on an almost vertically sloping rocky spur. From there, a spectacular view opens up of the Binger Loch, the Mäuseturm, and the Ehrenfels ruin. The imaginative work consists of a slightly elevated round tower and a rectangular building. The Rheinsteig trail leads directly past the ruin.

Above the Rhine, a magical world awaits hikers and walkers – the ornamental forest of Count Karl Maximilian von Ostein, which was laid out around 250 years ago as a unique garden monument – a symbiosis of nature, follies, and the Rhine. Count von Ostein masterfully showcased the mountain heights and the river view in particular. People loved and still love to stroll through the Ostein Park. This includes the poet Clemens Brentano, a pioneer of literary Rhine Romanticism and the creator of arguably the most popular Rhine myth, the Loreley. Did the mythical-looking park with its dense oak forest, artificial temples and ruins, and a 60-meter-long magic cave inspire him to write his "Rhine Fairy Tales"?

🎨🖌It doesn't get more romantic than this: Welcome to Assmannshausen, a picturesque town on the Rhine🎨🖌. Here, the Rhine Valley shows its best side – a picturesque part of the cultural landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley🎨🖌. Assmannshausen is a small, picturesque town on the Rhine, in the northwesternmost corner of Hesse📍. With 75 hectares of vineyards, this wine-growing community boasts the largest contiguous Pinot Noir vineyard area in Germany🇩🇪. The red wine tradition in Assmannshausen dates back to the town's founding in 1108. Assmannshäuser Rote is particularly famous because the vines grow on sun-drenched, steep slopes directly above the Rhine, whose slate-rich soil produces a particularly elegant wine. Cozy wine taverns, elegant restaurants, and romantic pergola terraces tempt you to rave about Assmannshäuser Spätburgunder🍷 - one of the best German red wines🍷 - 🥰.
