In Bad Malente, the spa town in the heart of Holstein Switzerland, lies the Wonderland of the Forest. This includes the wildlife park, the Holzberg Tower, and the Tree Park. These extremely popular visitor attractions are operated and maintained on a voluntary basis by us, the Malente Village and Nature Association. Please feel free to stop by and experience the flora and fauna from different perspectives. In the neighboring village of Krummsee, we recommend visiting the nature trail around Lake Krummsee.

Schwentine Water Trail The Schwentine River connects numerous lakes in Holstein Switzerland over a distance of 62 kilometers. At 62 kilometers, the Schwentine is one of the longest rivers in Schleswig-Holstein and is a popular water trail for canoeists and paddlers. It rises at the foot of the Bungsberg mountain near Schönwalde/Ostholstein and flows into the Baltic Sea near Kiel. Known as the "Holy River" by the Slavs, it was formed from the meltwater of the last Ice Age. On its way through Holstein Switzerland, it connects 16 natural lakes and one reservoir. The most famous lakes include the Großer Eutiner See, Kellersee, Dieksee, Behler See, Großer & Kleiner Plöner See, and Lanker See. Numerous native animal species feel at home along the rivers and lakes. Among the rarest specimens are the kingfisher, bittern, otter, and white-tailed eagle. But amphibians such as fire-bellied toads and moor frogs also frolic in the wet banks of the Schwentine.

Kellersee borders Malente to the east. It has a total area of approximately 50.6 hectares and a maximum depth of approximately 27 meters. A 14.6 km hiking trail surrounds the lake, including several highlights along the way. These include, for example, the "WunderWeltWasser" nature trail for all ages and the Rothensande estate, the original setting for the Immenhof films. Kellersee can be explored by both excursion boats and sailboats. Canoe trips from Eutin-Fissau are also possible, and there is also a swimming area here. Other swimming areas can be found in Wöbbensredder or at Hamburger Strand in Sielbeck. The swimming areas in Sielbeck and Fissau are unguarded. Anglers also have plenty of opportunities here, as the lake has a good population of zander, pike, and sea bass. Numerous waterfowl can also be observed here. This lake also offers great opportunities for anglers. You can catch eels, perch, bream, pike, tench, zander, carp, and others 🐟

Good luck: who can catch the biggest fish? Lake Vierer is an ideal area for anglers. The old breeding lake in the Holstein Lake District has a good fish population. Quiet bays and steep banks give you a good chance of catching a lot of fish. Pike, perch, carp, bream, roach, eel, whitefish and tench can be caught in Lake Vierer. Enjoy the wonderful peace and quiet on the lake while you cast your line and wait for a bite. Fishing licenses are available at our reception upon presentation of an annual or holiday fishing license. We issue the fishing licenses for the fishing master. 1 day EUR 6.00 1 week EUR 30.00 2 weeks EUR 45.00 3 weeks EUR 60.00 1 month EUR 75.00 1 season EUR 100.00 By the way, the crayfish are evidence of the good water quality, please do not fish...!

The catchment area, which is mainly used for agriculture, has a high relief energy and a permeable subsoil (gravel pits) in parts. The northern and southern parts of the water are of particular ornithological importance as breeding, moulting and resting habitats, while the middle part of the lake is mainly used for recreational purposes. The water level of the Great Plöner Lake was lowered by around 114 cm in 1881.

The Vierer See is located in the municipality of Bösdorf in the district of Plön and runs in an elongated form east of the Großer Plöner See. In some places the two lakes are only separated from each other by narrow strips of land. It is about 3.2 km long and about 500 m wide at its widest point. It has an area of 132 hectares and a maximum depth of 2.5 m. There is a bathing area in Bösdorf Augstfelde. This lake also offers great opportunities for anglers. You can fish for eels, perch, bream, pike, tench, zander, large whitefish, small whitefish and roach.
