Anyone who hasn't been there has really missed out. I affectionately call this spot the Caribbean in the Rhein-Sieg district ;)

The Kamelleboom is a small but historically significant place in the Kottenforst or Ville area near Bornheim. According to tradition, a distinctive old oak tree stood there for many centuries. Today, a monument with a memorial stone and a younger tree commemorate this spot. According to the LVR KuLaDig, the Kamelleboom stood there from 1477 to 1977. The place owes its name to a regional legend. It is told that children used to wait there for their parents returning from the market, hoping for sweets they had brought. This gave rise to the beautiful idea that the tree itself would give sweets. This very story makes the place so special to this day. However, the Kamelleboom is not just a nice story, but also culturally and historically interesting. The place was located at an old crossroads and apparently also had significance as a border point. Thus, it stands not only for a sense of home, but also for a piece of regional landscape and border history. This is precisely what makes this place so appealing. The Kamelleboom is not a major tourist highlight, but rather a quiet spot with history, legend, and its very own regional character. Those who know the background see much more there than just a tree and a stone.

Unfortunately, the table and the two benches are no longer there. A little further on, there's a new bench.
