The Mediterranean Garden in the Arcen Castle Gardens boasts an impressively large lavender field with over 6,000 lavender plants. These wonderfully fragrant plants are planted in rows, just like in the South of France, and transport the viewer into a true holiday mood. The Mediterranean flair is further enhanced by the various old olive trees and palm trees. You'll also find some unusual plants with special names: angel's wing, donkey's ear, and rock rose. The fog installation in the Water & Sculpture Garden was inspired by Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya. At a central location in this themed garden, the fog blends harmoniously with the natural pond. Clouds of cool water vapor form temporary, boundless fog sculptures that adapt to their surroundings. Accompanied by beautiful sounds by composer Egbert Derix, you'll be transported into an inspiring and mysterious world. The palace gardens are an absolute highlight and definitely worth a visit. We were here in June 2025, when the Rose Festival was taking place. Since there's a rose garden anyway, it's more of an additional show for professional florists and garden designers, but it's definitely worth seeing and there's no extra charge. The visit now costs €23, or €21 if booked online. However, this doesn't save you anything other than the price; you still have to queue at the ticket office. When booking, you can also purchase a parking ticket for €7 per day. This is convenient, but not absolutely necessary during the week if you arrive on time. There are several free parking spaces in the town. If you want to continue to the small town of Arcen after visiting the park, you can park there and this may make your journey easier.

A very beautiful park garden at a large castle where there is often something to do. Many weddings and parties are held there and art.

We were there on April 4th and had a small problem. Due to the high water level, the "White Mountain" was inaccessible. Therefore, our tip: keep right shortly after the "Loop Bridge" (the path is marked in black). You'll then come to a gate with a lock. The wire fence was not electrified, so crossing is possible even for older people. Follow the trail behind it. From the other side, leave the mountain to the left and continue to the second gate. There are numerous other beautiful trails, though. We'll be back, and if all goes well, we'll make our hike available. Until then, have fun; it's a great area.
