This house is the vicarage where Van Gogh's parents lived in Nuenen, in the Dutch province of North Brabant. He painted it after returning home to stay with them for a while. The vicarage is still standing. The atmosphere in the Van Gogh home was often strained; Vincent was quick to take offence at his father's remarks. He had the feeling his family consisted mainly of 'people who keep up a position', he wrote. He didn't fit in, as 'a peasant painter β who doesn't think about it'.

Still a real, old piece of Nuenen. The Clemenskerk that still stands there stately and behind it the old cemetery. And here you can clearly see that the church used to attract many nuns because on the other side about 250 meters walk there is still a part of the monastery. These sisters meant a lot to Nuenen, not only care for the sick but also nursery school and primary school were led by the nuns in the past.

Nuenen is famous for the paintings that Vincent van Gogh once painted there. But Va Gogh did not stay in Nuenen for long, his idiosyncratic view of the small farmers of Nuenen and his idiosyncratic way of painting have made the potato eaters world famous. During carnival, the real Nuenen residents turn into dwersklippels, Nuenen Dwers.
