At the transition from the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to the Gelderse Vallei lies the Den Treek-Henschoten estate. This vast area with forests, nature, agriculture and heathland covers almost 2200 hectares and borders five municipalities: Amersfoort, Leusden, Woudenberg, Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Zeist. The Den Treek-Henschoten N.V. estate is the largest family estate in the Netherlands. The shareholders of Den Treek-Henschoten are all descendants of the founder of the estate, Willem Hendrik de Beaufort. In 1807 he bought the Den Treek country estate with surrounding forests and farmlands. Here he founded the estate as a forestry company. The country estate was his home.

The Grebbelinie is a waterline that runs from the Nederrijn near Rhenen over a length of more than 60 kilometres along the Valleikanaal and the Eem straight through the Gelderse Vallei to end at the Eemmeer (formerly the Zuiderzee). Since the start of the construction of the Grebbelinie in 1744, work has been done in various periods to expand this defence line. Not only by the Netherlands itself, but also by the French during the French occupation at the beginning of the 19th century and by the Germans at the end of the Second World War. It was not until 1936 with the construction of the Valleikanaal that the Grebbelinie came back into the picture as an important defence line. Museum Grebbelinie in het vizier,To prevent the history of the Grebbelinie near Woudenberg and Scherpenzeel from being forgotten, the foundation Grebbelinie in het vizier was established in 2005 under the motto "lest we forget". Part of the foundation is the museum in Woudenberg. The museum consists of an exhibition of weapons, uniforms, photos, films and a multitude of attributes, which were used by both civilians and soldiers in the period 1940 to 1945. Volunteers tell the story of the construction of the Grebbelinie, the battles around Scherpenzeel and Woudenberg and the consequences for the residents of this region.
