The Knarbos is a very diverse forest due to the mixture of different deciduous tree species, coniferous groups and open spaces. The abundance of mushrooms indicates a varied soil. In addition, the forest is home to a rich population of songbirds, making it perhaps the best place in Flevoland and perhaps even in the whole of the Netherlands to see and hear the oriole. The distinctive oboe-like whistle and yawn-like squawk of this brightly colored bird is hard to miss. Therefore, regularly keep your gaze upwards, because the majestic bald eagle can also often be seen in this forest.

The Larservaart is a canal in Flevoland. The part south of the Larserbos is called Larsertocht. The canal connects the Gelderse Diep and the Lage Vaart in Lelystad with the Hoge Vaart. The Flevo landscape and the Zuiderzeeland Water Board have created habitats and breeding areas for amphibians, fish and birds along the Larservaart. Until 1995, the grain silo "Larservaart" stood along the canal at the height of the Meerkoetenweg. The canal is named after the planned, unrealized village of Larsen.
