Albrecht the Bear, Margrave of Brandenburg, founded this market around 1160/65. He soon granted his city of Stendal the famous Magdeburg Law, that is, city rights, freedom from tolls, the right to mint coins, and other privileges. A favorable location and diverse trade connections to cities on the North and Baltic Seas quickly made Stendal the most prestigious and largest city in the Margraviate of Brandenburg. The impressive market square ensemble, with its town hall, Roland statue, and St. Mary's Church, still testifies to the wealth of the old Hanseatic city and is among the most beautiful examples of brick architecture in northern Germany. https://www.world-qr.com/inhalte/new/qr-fuehrer/de/sachsen_anhalt/stendal/ortsfuehrer/stadtfuehrer_stendal/stendal_marktplatz?lat=0&lng=0

The village of Volgfelde, a district of the Hanseatic city of Stendal, welcomes its guests at the town entrance. This village is located in the southern Altmark region on the upper Uchte River, about 15 kilometers southwest of Stendal and 15 kilometers east of Gardelegen. South of the village lies the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide, the largest contiguous heathland in Central Europe. The first documented mention of Volgfelde dates back to 1191. In the 1375 Land Register of the Margraviate of Brandenburg, the village was listed as "Walkfelde" or "Valkfelde." On January 1, 2010, Volgfelde was incorporated into the city of Stendal. The Protestant village church is a late Romanesque fieldstone building from the 13th century. It was rebuilt between 1734 and 1737 and again in 1880. The organ dates from 1881. Another historical monument is the memorial to the fallen of the First World War, erected in 1922 and supplemented in 1993 by a memorial stone for the victims of the Second World War. The village street is lined with old hawthorn trees, and the avenue leading to Börgitz consists of maple trees planted between 1828 and 1830.

Color in the landscape! The Trofo House has been decorated with murals. Whether street art or urban art, it's an eye-catcher and looks much better with color.

The village church in Volgfelde is a significant historical building. Originally built in the 13th century as a late Romanesque fieldstone structure, it features a square west tower. Between 1734 and 1737, and again in 1880, the church underwent extensive renovations, which shaped its present appearance. The organ dates from 1881. The Protestant parish of Volgfelde formerly belonged to the Staats parish near Vinzelberg and is now served by the Lindstedt parish in the Salzwedel church district. The oldest surviving church records date from 1655.

The village church in Staats was built from brick in 1880/1881 in the Neo-Romanesque style. The simple structure comprises a nave with a square steeple projecting to the west and a small, polygonal chancel on the east side. Striking features include the buttresses in the nave and chancel, as well as the two-part pointed-arch windows with original glazing from the time of construction, which depict figurative depictions. Inside, a wooden ceiling spans the nave, while the chancel has a vault. The furnishings are simple and largely preserved in their original condition. Particularly noteworthy is the pulpit, made by Gustav Kuntzsch of Wernigerode. A large statue of the Virgin Mary from the early 16th century is located in the tower. The current interior design dates from 1966.
