July 10, 2026, Water Tower and Museum of the Drop of Water, Ełk

The water tower in Ełk is a historic, monument-protected water tower in the neo-Gothic style. The water tower is owned by and the seat of the local group of the German minority, the Society of the German Minority Masuria in Lyck, which has set up a museum of East Prussian culture and history inside. The structure has five floors, is 33 meters high, and is located at the highest point in the city. It has a public observation deck.

The Deutschordensschloss in Ełk (formerly Lyck) is the ruin of a Teutonic Knights' castle from the late 14th century, built between 1398 and 1406 under Ulrich von Jungingen. The complex, which later served as a ducal seat and prison, is picturesquely located on an island in Lake Ełk in the Polish region of Masuria. The old castle is currently being renovated. The first building is already finished.

Very friendly, knowledgeable, and informative German-speaking museum guide. The museum was put together with a lot of passion.

Unfortunately, the castle is not open to the public. After a decade or more of neglect, the building is currently undergoing renovation. However, its intended use is primarily for hotel and restaurant services.

A route for walkers and cyclists and, most importantly, it is much less frequented than the promenade on the other side of the lake.

After many years of stagnation, counting from when the castle changed owners, one can finally see the changes taking place. If one looks at photos of the castle from a few years ago, or even a year ago, one will notice positive images.
