Bukčiai Bridge is the only suspension bridge in Vilnius, its length is about 100 meters and its width is about 5 meters. The bridge was built in 1957 according to the project prepared by the Kaunas agricultural construction design institute "Žemprojektas", but due to poor quality construction works and deviations from the project, it was never accepted for operation. It is true that a reconstruction project was prepared in 1965, but the bridge was never reconstructed. Although it was severely damaged after being hit by a heavy vehicle, experts found most of the structure to be in satisfactory condition several decades ago. in 2021 after the examination of the bridge, it became clear that only the existing ropes are suitable for operation. The reconstruction project will aim to restore the bridge's original design while retaining the cables, but the former metal structures are no longer usable due to corrosion.
