The Luitpold Trail is a fitness trail on the Buchel hill in Marktoberdorf. Numerous stations offer opportunities to get or stay fit, and information panels provide additional insights into some interesting aspects of the town's history, including the "Did you know?" section. The trail is named after the Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold, who assumed power after the mysterious death of King Ludwig II. Luitpold was Ludwig II's uncle but not next in line to the throne, so he became Prince Regent rather than king. There were also plans to name the entire Buchel hill after him, but this idea never gained traction with the local population. Today, the Buchel, along with the fitness trail, forms a recreational area offering a variety of activities.

On the south side below the church entrance there is, mostly unnoticed, a small Lourdes grotto (right door) and another small chapel (left door)

At the eastern end of the parish church of St. Martin is the grave of Elector Clemens Wenceslaus, over which a memorial chapel was built as an extension of the parish church. The city owes much to the Elector, including the building of the Bavarian Music Academy, which was built as the Electoral Palace. The Elector's Avenue, then known as the Linden Avenue, is also his work.
