Yes, Wunderschön is right. I had already posted a picture of it on Facebook years ago asking who could say more about it. It was heavily researched and it turned out to be the counterweights of a cable excavator and the remains of the vehicle scale. The gate is the former entrance to the sandpit.

Instead of trusting my gut feeling, I believed some idiot who told me this was a path, but it was closed to cyclists. It's definitely not a path!

These are the 'Witten Mountains'. Dunes that probably formed during the last ice age 😉

You can't get right up close, but you can still get a good view of the deserter's old home from the path 🙂

Quartz sand has been mined here in Dorsten for decades. In April 2024, expansion plans were mentioned in the Dorstener Zeitung. However, I could not find any definitive statement on whether the envisaged 25 hectares of land will actually be added and a corresponding amount of forest area will be lost.

As already described, here I agree with the other tipsters: The surrounding nature is wonderful, the narrow paths, the springy forest floor under your feet, but the A31 motorway, the intersecting federal roads and the shooting range do not ensure maximum relaxation.
