Plečnik's stairs, fountain and arcades from Kranj The internationally recognized architect Jože Plečnik has also made his mark in Kranj. At the top of Vodopivec Street, he designed a monumental entrance to the city. And he succeeded very well with these stairs, the arcades and the fountain, where water pours from the bronze statue of a rooster into terraced pools. Plečnik also took part in the reconstruction of the Prešeren Theater. With arcades and his typical lights, he created a striking facade for the theater. Prešeren Monument of Kranj On December 28, 1952, a 5-meter-high bronze statue of the greatest Slovenian poet was erected on the main square, between the Church of St. Kancian and the Prešeren Theater. It is the work of sculptors Frančišek Smerdu and Peter Loboda. It was erected under the watchful eyes and instructions of Jože Plečnik and Josip Slavec, who were designing the arcades on the facade of the theater at the time. It is the largest statue of this poet. Text / Source: Tourist Information Center (TIC), Kranj https://www.visitkranj.com/de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/preseren-denkmal/

Slovenska peč, Kropa Blast Furnace Museum in Dno Some of the preserved technical facilities along the Kroparica still bear witness to Fužina's former busy activity. The highest in Dno nad Kropo is the Slovenian Furnace, an ironworks from the 14th century. The archaeological remains of this important technical monument were discovered in 1953 and are covered with a protective building. The smelting furnace was three meters high and delivered 200 kg of iron for forging in 10 hours, the so-called wolf. They used 600 to 800 kg of charcoal for this. It was in operation until the middle of the 15th century, when the smelting works moved deeper into the valley. The preserved remains of the blast furnace are mentioned in sources from the 16th century as the Old Hammer. The Slovenian Furnace is the oldest monument of its kind in Slovenia and documents the autochthonous smelting of iron ore in Slovenia at the end of the late Middle Ages.
