Schurenbachhalde

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Schurenbachhalde in the north of Essen is the city's largest. Once you've found the way to the top, numerous, partly beautifully prepared single trails lead down. On the large summit plateau, there is an upright, huge slab as a landmark, which is visible from afar.

The view from the top offers you a panoramic view of the heart of the Ruhr area. To the south lies Essen with its many skyscrapers at the main station, where corporate headquarters are located. To the east, you see the white roof of the Arena Auf Schalke, and to the north and west, the chimneys of the extensive industrial areas of Essen, Bottrop, and Gelsenkirchen smoke on both sides of the Rhine-Herne Canal. A Pilsner up here (you have to bring your own, you can't buy anything here) at sunset is pure Ruhrpott romance!

Forest Path Along the Rosentalbach

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Rosentalbach Levada? Before many hikes we coined the name Levada because the creek is walled here like the irrigation systems on Madeira.

The path leads through dense vegetation very close to the walled Rosentalbach. An almost Mediterranean mood arises.
On the other side lurks the golf course.

Ilex Trail (Ruhrhöhenweg)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Great and highly recommended! Be careful if you drive from east to west: the route just before the Brücker Bach is not without it. This single trail is a small section of the Ruhrhöhenweg. You can find more information here: bike-magazin.de/touren/deutschland/ruhrgebiet-mtb-tour-auf-dem-ruhrhoehenweg/a28105.html.

Pasberg Downhill Trail

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

That's a really nice descent down to the Ruhr. Above great views, then follow some built curves and jumps that are really fun. The trail ends at the bottom of the Ruhr. Technically not without but also without mega skills you will arrive down - in case of doubt you drive past the jumps.

Brammentrail Section – Schurenbachhalde

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

completely newly created .... found to be good. Not too difficult to drive. This particular S-curve is one of the good parts. The whole route wasn't finished yet, but there's sure to be more. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of the piece, maybe someone has one that fits this piece. It's not about the heap itself. General photos lueber in other highlights.

Root Trail at Brücker Bach

Highlight • Trail

The trail is initially very steep and has large roots from the Bröcker Bach and then runs gently through the forest to the edge of the field on the Kutschenweg. Attention, mountain bikers can accommodate because this downhill path is very well known as "Loco Ride Trail" or "Brucka" (Trailforks).

Südländer Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Südländer-Trail is a very nice Enduro-Line next to the Bambi-Line and the Schattentrail.
There are carpets of roots and small drops, at the end there are some very tight curves
(Most fun with rear wheel offset).
Great for beginners to get their first downhill experience and a nice descent to shoot for the advanced.

MTB Brammen Trail

Highlight • MTB Park

The trail is really recommended! I really wouldn't have expected something like that for the Ruhr area in the Ruhr area, even without the Alps.

January 7, 2025, Root Trail at Brücker Bach

Very nice path. At the beginning it goes steeply over stones and roots. About halfway through it becomes flatter until you reach the carriage path. It can be quite muddy there. Caution: MTBs may come towards you. Sure-footedness is an advantage when descending. I can recommend the trail

The section of the hiking trail is very well marked. It has many roots and then becomes increasingly narrow. Due to various mountain bikers, the path is quite muddy when it rains.
