Half of those present aren't following the rules! At the start of the climb, a sign clearly states that swimwear should be worn out of consideration (especially for children). Instead, a Frenchman presents himself completely naked. Some French women enjoy exposing their breasts. Everyone present is smugly sprawling, lying head-to-toe in the water without a single gesture of consideration for newly arrived visitors. A little further upstream from the spring, we encounter the third disappointment: Down in the village, several signs indicate a camping ban. A few meters above the spring, we found a camping tent in the forest (keyword: wild camping) and a prepared campfire site (as if there weren't enough forest fires in France by 2025). The behavior of some of the people is unacceptable.

The Porteille of Bésines, a mysterious pass in the depths of the Catalan Pyrenees, tells stories of hikers in search of adventure and silence. Whether you come from the south via the Bésines refuge or from the north via the shimmering Estagnas pond, the path takes you into a world of rugged beauty. The south wall is rougher, as if it had been shaped by centuries of unpredictable weather, while the north wall has a gentler face. And although the climb does not pose any major technical challenges, the moody mountain weather can certainly make the route more demanding. But once you get to the top, it's worth stopping and lingering. The view opens to the gentle peaks of the Catalan Pyrenees Regional Natural Park, which rise majestically. It is as if the mountains in the distance sing a silent melody that touches the heart of every hiker. Every view, every play of light on the peaks tells a story - an invitation to delve even deeper into the heart of this wonderful country.

December 30, 2022, Refuge d'En Beys

The En Beys refuge which overlooks the eponymous ponds culminates at an altitude of 1,970 meters, in the heart of the Orlu national reserve. Situated on the great GR 7 which connects the Vosges to the Pyrenees, the refuge remains an excellent detour for the GRP® tour of the Ax Mountains or Tour des Pérics. In a warm and family setting, the refuge guardians offer 70 beds in high season as well as a complete catering offer. In winter, 15 places remain freely accessible, accessible through the window at the top of the ladder which fits on one of the walls of the building. The refuge is an ideal place to observe the burning of the granite walls of the Pics Rouges at sunset, or the galloping chamois in the snowfields in the early morning. If you wish to extend your stay for one night, do not hesitate to contact the refuge on 05 61 64 24 24 to find out about opening dates and bed availability.
