A rust-brown metal tower incorporating a gargoyle, or "gaper," stands on Sint-Denijsplein near the church in Geluwe. It was designed by John Claeys and Marc Verdoodt and was inaugurated on the occasion of the Gapersfeesten (Gapers Festival) in 2000. To emphasize the original function of the gaper/gargoyle, the monument is a fountain. The current monument is a rework of an earlier version dating from 1975 (also by John Claeys), which incorporated an authentic gaper, which formerly hung from one of the corners of the church tower.
