Tips from the Community

Passo Randagio
October 4, 2023, Secchieta Wind Turbines

Mount Secchieta is certainly a place that lends itself well to various mountain bike rides, with gravel only being the main road on the ridge. Be careful because it is particularly exposed to the wind so even a sunny day can bring cold temperatures at the gates of autumn. The area offers several bivouacs, low altitude compared to the ridge, with possible overnight stops. The water sources, except those at the managed refuges, almost always release only a light trickle.

Shortly after the Santa Caterina restaurant, a beautiful and challenging forest road about 6 km long starts which, passing through Macinaia, leads to the top of Monte Secchieta. The surface is stony and slippery at times, with holes and roots: the road is therefore more suitable for MTBs than for gravel bikes. The slopes are significant and never fall below 10%.

..are the names of the trails that start from here. I left the car at the Mandri restaurant where all the riders meet .. there is a large parking area and you can do magic on a budget😎. You climb the 250-300m of difference in altitude arriving at the start of the 3 very valid trails. All three have an altitude difference of + -500m and some of them connect to the trails called L’Oca and Mandri. Going down to the Vivaio di Rincine and they are all very well done, challenging, fun. The grip is very good despite the high humidity and the many roots .. tires, pressure and set-up make the difference. Protections and full-face helmet make you feel more comfortable✊🏻😎. There are other trails in the area and some under construction. This time I didn't do them but I promised to come back as soon as possible.

Bike park for mtb and enduro lovers. The territory around Rincine has mainly mountainous characteristics, rich in woods which, with the variation of the altitude, present oak, chestnut, beech and broad-leaved trees. The trails that cross them are well-maintained CAI trails for mountain biking, and then there are the single enduro tracks that make them the characteristic of the place for lovers of this discipline. The area is managed by FirenzeFreeRide where it does not fail to organize courses, mechanized lifts and above all maintenance of the place for lovers of descents. Protections and long clothing for enduro are recommended, even if someone is not a lover, they will not fail to try once they find themselves there .... In the area there is a restaurant bar "I Mandri" where you can refuel, and a meeting point. From there, if you wish, you can leave for an excursion on foot or by mtb and immerse yourself in the Falterona park
